About

Local Food Hero is a show for anyone who eats. We are here to meet local food heroes and explore the greener side of culinary worlds within Minnesota and nationally. We’ll be talking to local chefs and farmers and interview national policy makers as we relish in the joys of good food.

A little bit about us, we both work at a nonprofit called Renewing the Countryside. Local Food Hero is a program of RTC’s local food advocacy work. We gather and showcase profiles of farmers, artists, business owners, community leaders, nonprofit organizers, youth and others who are modeling sustainable rural development. We accomplish our goals by sharing stories of rural renewal, building public awareness and support for sustainable endeavors, providing practical assistance and networking opportunities for those working to improve rural America, and fostering connections between urban and rural people. We have programs working with local food, green travel, rural economic development and have published 8 books. You can find us on the web at www.renewingthecountryside.org

Hi – I am involved in a new organic salad dressing company called Salad Girl. We are manufactured locally (go to our website http://www.saladgirldressings.com) for more information. We would love to send you a sampling of our products. Where should we send them ? We also sample at all Kowalski’s stores on the week-ends, and we will be in co-ops around town soon. We started last summer at Mill City Market and will do that market again this summer . I will look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,

    Roddie

You should interview Anna Sonmore Costello, the Seward School Youth Peace Garden Coordinator.
She’s a friend of Tracy Singleton.

    Hi Lindsay and Brett,
I am the owner of Local D’Lish, a gourmet/grocery located in the downtown Minneapolis area. I will sell everything for cooking and entertaining but it has to be locally grown, made or handcrafted. I am currently looking for great foods that are locally made. I would greatly appreciate any info or advice that you may have for me.
    Thank you,
    ~Ann Yin~

Every year I plan a Community wide Wellness Fair that exhibits healthy food choices and menu ideas for parents, students and teachers for next year’s school menu and food choices. Parents give us feedback to what they would like to see served at school meals. This year I want to have a Going Local North Dakota theme. I am interested in how parents feel about purchasing local and incorporating what we can into school meals. I am looking for any ideas for the Wellness Fair.

My name is Amanda C. Bacon, I’m writing you because I would love to have a chat with you about a book that I am working on. I am writing a book that will be a visual (photographs)/written journey through America featuring our most exemplary producers. I have been cooking at Lucques restaurant in Los Angeles, and recently had my writing published in the Los Angeles Times, from there I have been able to gain support and interest in a book that would be a song of praise for our nation’s incredible farmers. I have been in contact with Alice Waters ( I have worked with her on a kitchen level before, and she is a friend), some of the folks at Chez Panisse, Suzanne Goin of Lucques, a number of farmers, and some food writers like Erick Schlosser (Fast Food Nation). I would love to speak to you about any interest you have in this project, any thoughts you may have, and any other farmers or ranchers you know of that are great examples of our food heroes (especially our friend in the middle of the country and the south). I feel that this chance to give volume to those that save us seed by seed, pig by goat should not be taken for granted. I want to collaborate and hear from as many people with knowledge that I can. I want to somehow incorporate your greatness.
    Best,
    Amanda C. Bacon

We are a non-profit community radio station serving Minnesota’s North Shore and we’re interested in carrying your program! Could you please send me some details?

    Thanks!
