My name is Amanda C. Bacon, I'm writing you because I would love to have a chat with you about a book that I am working on. I am writing a book that will be a visual (photographs)/written journey through America featuring our most exemplary producers. I have been cooking at Lucques restaurant in Los Angeles, and recently had my writing published in the Los Angeles Times, from there I have been able to gain support and interest in a book that would be a song of praise for our nation's incredible farmers. I have been in contact with Alice Waters ( I have worked with her on a kitchen level before, and she is a friend), some of the folks at Chez Panisse, Suzanne Goin of Lucques, a number of farmers, and some food writers like Erick Schlosser (Fast Food Nation). I would love to speak to you about any interest you have in this project, any thoughts you may have, and any other farmers or ranchers you know of that are great examples of our food heroes (especially our friend in the middle of the country and the south). I feel that this chance to give volume to those that save us seed by seed, pig by goat should not be taken for granted. I want to collaborate and hear from as many people with knowledge that I can. I want to somehow incorporate your greatness.
Best,
Amanda C. Bacon

Every year I plan a Community wide Wellness Fair that exhibits healthy food choices and menu ideas for parents, students and teachers for next year's school menu and food choices. Parents give us feedback to what they would like to see served at school meals. This year I want to have a Going Local North Dakota theme. I am interested in how parents feel about purchasing local and incorporating what we can into school meals. I am looking for any ideas for the Wellness Fair.

Hi Lindsay and Brett,
I am the owner of Local D'Lish, a gourmet/grocery located in the downtown Minneapolis area. I will sell everything for cooking and entertaining but it has to be locally grown, made or handcrafted. I am currently looking for great foods that are locally made. I would greatly appreciate any info or advice that you may have for me.
Thank you,
~Ann Yin~

You should interview Anna Sonmore Costello, the Seward School Youth Peace Garden Coordinator.
She's a friend of Tracy Singleton.

Dear Lindsay & Brett;
I 'm the PR specialist with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. In keeping with our mission of stewardship for the land, we offer cooking classes highlighting locally grown and wholesome foods. Arboretum resident chef Jenny Breen is a true "Local Food Hero." She is teaching a series of classes this spring and summer, which include the following themes: "Tastes from the Spring Garden" May 15, "Summer Picnic Ideas" June 19; "Great Grilling" July 24; "Simple Garden-Fresh Meals" Aug. 14 and "Harvest Season Feast" Sept. 25. We also offer an Ethnic Cooking series (now in progress), as well as a "Cooking with Restaurateurs of the Year" series this summer highlighting JD Fratzke of The Strip Club, Scott Pampuch of Corner Table, Marshall of Birchwood Cafe, Lucia Watson of Lucia's and Mike Phillips of Craftsman. Individuals can sign up for one class or a series. Classes are $50 for Arb members and they include three- to four-courses, plus three complementary wines.

Let me know if you'd like to feature Jenny Breen or another Arb staffer on your show discussing the above.

As a sidenote, the Arboretum is throwing a "Toast & Taste" garden party on June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. which will feature Minnesota wines and beers plus samplings from 16 local restaurants. (It's open to the public- call 952-443-1400 ex. 7046 to order tix.) We are working with Renewing the Countryside on this event which is one of several celebrating the Arboretum's 50th anniversary. Tickets are $45 per person.

If any of the above interests you as a possible show topic, please let me know. Thanks for your time and attention. Best Regards, Barb DeGroot (952-443-1459)
